Md. Abdul Rahin, Bandarban Correspondent :: In nine municipality word areas in Bandarban allegations of corruption and irregularities have been found. This is complained about that in constructions of water drainage, low grade materials is being used. These development projects have been passed with the financial support of ADB (UGIT project) at 30 core 47 lakhs taka under the supervision of Bandarban Municipality in May 2020. It is supposed to be finished in December 2021. Though, this project work is permitted to a Bandarban construction company named Utimong Constraction but using these license name the main construction works is being done by the Bandarban Municipality Panel Mayor, also leader Awami league and also word councilor and contractor Shourav Das Shekhor. And again, from him as a sub constructor Sumon Das, Soyon Chowdhury Shaowon and Nazim Uddin have been using low grade work material in Drainage Construction in 7 no Word Wabda Bridge Area with worth taka 22 lakhs.
It was found that to build drain in municipality, 7 number word, low grade local material is being used and also to remain the electric poles in the middle of the drain the work continues. It is feared that it may cause the drain to fill with dirt and overflow of water in the rainy season because of that. However, the main constructor of this project Shourav Das Shekhor, always denied, not to be the part of this development project. To know the matter he is called by mobile phone and said that it is not possible to tell anything over the phone. Though he denied his involvement in this project but when the reporter met him in front of Bandarban Trust Bank, he says “It is not possible to remove the electric poles. So, we continuing our work remaining those electric poles and I am not aware of using of low materials in the work. No need to report and you may contact with the sub-contractor”.
Regarding this matter Bandarban Municipalty Assistant Engineer Luipro Ong Marma says “The Electric poles standing on the drain will be removed. But noting is written about the local or Sylhet’s stone here on the document. We know as a contractor Utimong Constraction. You may contact with them for further queries”.
